fr its dramatic hiking trails and dramatic scenery.
The Northern Drakensberg has many of excellent accommodation options,
from mountain hotel resorts to guest houses and self-catering units and camp
sites. The Northern Drakensberg is the source of the Tugela River, the largest
river in the Province, and it plunges some 950 meters over the edge of the Mont-aux-Sources
Plateau in a spectacular waterfall. This waterfall, the Tugela Falls, is the
second highest waterfall in the world. The Amphitheatre is possibly the most
photographed feature of the Northern Drakensberg.
For the historian the Northern Drakensberg offers many battlefields
of the Anglo-Boer wars around the town of Ladysmith.
The mountains in the
Northern Drakensberg also offer some dramatic caves and shelters where a
mass of bushman paintings can be seen. Also some caves are perfect of over
night hiking trails.
