Rosetta
Rosetta is the rose of the Natal Midlands
Rosetta is situated between Nottingham
Road and Mooi
River and is one of
those little villages that with all the charm of the Natal Midlands. Rosetta
serves the surrounding smallholdings with little more than a small village
mall, which includes a little shopping centre. But one doesn’t
come to Rosetta to shop. Its the dramatic views of the Drakensberg and the
access road to Kamberg that makes Rossetta a hub.
The surrounding
landscapes of Rosetta come alive during spring with abundant wild
flowers and the autumns are an array of burnt orange and amber. The Rosetta
winters are cold and crisp often a frost-laden air
with snow-capped peaks in the distance and sometimes snow on the ground.
Some of the most spectacular waterfalls in KwaZulu Natal grace this part
of the world, and when staying in Rosetta, one is less than an hour’s
drive from Giant’s
Castle. The Kamberg Nature Reserve can be reached along the Kamberg Road
from Rosetta, where birdlife is the main attraction, including waterside
birds at close range. The walks are interesting too, but the reserve is best
known for its trout fishing.
Rosetta is surrounded by modern smallholdings, the village centre today
features Crispin's Corner, a small shopping centre where - in addition to
locally produced handicrafts history buffs may find that significant piece
in its antique shop. Rosetta is part of the Midlands Meander a major tourist
attraction in the area.
Rosetta is also the home too Marakesch Cheese where you can sample a
wide range of wonderfull cheeses.
